Timberland today announced the availability of its first factory-specific sustainability report to all stakeholders, industry leaders and consumers. The Facility
Report details baseline performance information for the company’s Dominican Republic factory in the areas of global human rights, environmental stewardship and
community involvement.
Timberland’s goals for facility-level reporting are threefold: (1) Build on the company’s commitment to local accountability, (2) Focus on community engagement and
continuous performance improvements at the local level and (3) Provide the foundation for a stakeholder dialogue between Timberland, its Dominican Republic factory and
the factory’s stakeholders.
“This report represents a major milestone in our efforts to translate Timberland’s corporate values and commitment to sustainability at the local level,” said Alex
Hausman, Timberland’s CSR Reporting Manager. “Our hope is that the data in this report will help us to better align our corporate CSR priorities with local needs,
and that it can serve as a model for future reporting projects with other facilities and contractors.”
Timberland worked closely with its stakeholders as well as Ceres (www.ceres.org) and the Facility Reporting Project (www.facilityreporting.org) to develop a report
that would be consistent, comparable and credible across industries and companies. The Facility Report is available in both Spanish and English and is considered a
companion piece to Timberland’s corporate CSR report.

Timberland today announced the availability of the 2005 Corporate Social Responsibility Report to all stakeholders, industry leaders and consumers. The report outlines
operations, product development and supply chain improvements the company has made over the last year and details community involvement programs from around the world.
“In 2005, we demonstrated to our stakeholders and the industry that we are committed to improving our processes by ensuring we continuously seek ways to run our
business in the most responsible manner possible,” said Jeffrey Swartz, Timberland’s President and CEO. “We want to continue to make it better – and we want
consumers to demand that from us and other companies they do business with.”
Highlights from this year’s report, titled “Our 2005 Footprint,” include:
• Focus on Timberland’s efforts in four specific areas: global human rights, environmental stewardship, community involvement and employee engagement
• Key Performance Indicators which compare 2005 actuals and 2006 targets for our social and environmental initiatives
• A new feature called “Voices of Challenge” which offers commentary and analysis on corporate CSR efforts by the leaders of Patagonia, The Home Depot, Seventh
Generation, Levi’s and Harlem Children’s Zone
• An updated list of addresses for Timberland factories worldwide
Following the publication of the 2004 CSR Report, Timberland requested feedback from its stakeholders and incorporated much of that in this edition. As a result, the
2005 report includes a more in-depth picture of Timberland’s business model, information about its public policies and shows how CSR efforts may contribute to a
company’s performance. In addition, through its membership in Ceres, a national coalition focused on the challenges associated with global climate change, the 2005 CSR
Report was also formally reviewed by Ceres stakeholders.

As concerns about global warming and its impact on the environment increase, The Timberland Company is focusing its annual Earth Day activities on initiatives to help
protect and preserve one of our greatest natural resources – water. Recent research suggests that if nothing is done to protect and preserve global waters, seven
billion people in 60 countries will face moderate to severe water scarcity in the decades to come.
Continuing a tradition of global volunteerism, Timberland employees, along with community partners, consumers and retail customers, will celebrate Earth Day in 26
countries at 140 service locations from New York City to Hong Kong and Paris to Madrid by hosting and participating in community service events. The nearly 7,000
volunteers at Timberland’s Earth Day events will serve an estimated 46,000 hours.
“Poor water quality has dramatic negative impacts on human health, natural habitats and bio-diversity; fortunately, it’s an issue we can all help to improve,” said
Jeffrey Swartz, Timberland’s President and CEO. “Although Timberland’s commitment to environmental stewardship is year-round, Earth Day gives us an occasion to
focus on the importance of our world’s water supply and other natural resources, and our ability to better preserve them.”
This year, Timberland’s Earth Day projects are designed to help restore habitats that filter and store fresh water in communities where the company’s retail stores,
factories and distribution centers are located. Volunteers will also clean up debris along oceans and rivers to decrease the erosion of shorelines caused by pollution.
